with the take over of Martinez Gassiot & Cockburn Smithers by the Symington
Family Estates Vinhos Lda, owners of Warre’s, Dow's, Graham’s, Smith Woodhouse,
Gould Campbell & Fells Wine Agencies of London, they have deemed that my
order of 1,200 bottles is not good enough, as C.A.Rookes is only a small company
and not a supermarket chain. No letter of warning of the possible order cancellation, or even an apology.
So,
C.A.Rookes Hunting Port, after nearly 60 years, has died, thanks to the
Symington Family, but I will not be defeated, the Symington’s don’t own all
the port houses, and after having tasted a rather disgusting sample (a
supermarket ruby) left by the Fells area manager (reps they use to call them),
research went under way to find a quality drinking port. After extensive
sampling (and still waiting for the promised samples from the Symington
Companies) we have chosen a range of Fine Ports from Quinta do Portal. Do try
the ‘Cellar Reserve’?
